Sextortion: The Emergency Playbook

Immediate steps to take if someone threatens to share private images.

THE CRISIS
Sextortion occurs when a predator (often posing as a peer) convinces a teen to send an intimate photo and then threatens to send that photo to their family and friends unless they pay money or send more content.

THE EMERGENCY PLAN
1. Stop and Block: Do not send more money or photos. Scammers will never stop asking once you pay them. Block them on every platform immediately.
2. Do Not Delete: While it is tempting to delete everything, you must keep screenshots of the conversation and the scammer's profile as evidence for the police.
3. Tell a Trusted Adult: You are the victim of a crime, and you cannot handle this alone. Adults can help you contact the proper authorities.
4. Report-Remove: In the UK, use the 'Report-Remove' tool via Childline or IWF to get the image digitally 'fingerprinted' so it cannot be uploaded to major social platforms.
