VR Social Safety and Personal Bubbles
Navigating social anxiety and physical boundaries in the Metaverse.
THE RISK
Immersive Virtual Reality (VR) can feel as 'real' to the brain as physical reality. This includes the trauma of being harassed or having your personal space invaded in a virtual world.
SAFETY FEATURES
1. Personal Space Bubble: Most VR apps (like Meta Horizon or VRChat) have a 'Bubble' setting. This makes anyone who tries to get too close to your avatar disappear.
2. Mute and Block: In VR, the 'Block' button is your best friend. If someone is being toxic, do not argue—vanish them immediately.
3. Physical Boundaries: Always use a 'Guardian Boundary' or a physical rug to ensure you don't trip or walk into walls while immersed in a digital space.
