Gaming Burnout and Competitive Pressure
Recognizing when a hobby turns into a high-stress 'Job'.
THE SHIFT
With the rise of professional Esports, many teens no longer play games for fun. They play for 'Rank' and 'Status,' which can lead to physical and mental exhaustion.
SYMPTOMS
1. Irritability: Getting genuinely angry or 'raging' when losing a match.
2. Loss of Interest: No longer enjoying the game, but feeling a 'need' to play to maintain a leaderboard position.
3. Physical Pain: Strain in the wrists, neck, or back from 8+ hour sessions.
THE FIX
1. The Variety Rule: Force yourself to play a non-competitive, single-player game for at least one hour a week to remember why gaming is fun.
2. Physical Anchor: For every hour of gaming, spend 10 minutes doing a physical activity like stretching or walking.
3. Rank Neutrality: Remind yourself that your 'Rank' in a game does not reflect your value as a person.
