Swatting Defense

How to prevent and survive the dangerous prank of false emergency reporting.

THE THREAT
Swatting is a criminal act where someone calls the police with a fake report of a violent crime at your house. This is often done by gaming rivals or online trolls to force a high pressure police response to your door.

PREVENTION STEPS
1. VPN Usage: Always use a Virtual Private Network when gaming on public servers. This hides your home IP address which is often used to find your physical location.
2. Two Factor Authentication: Ensure all gaming accounts are locked down. If a troll cannot get into your account, they cannot see your billing address.
3. Anti Doxing Habits: Never share photos that show the view from your window or the front of your house.

IF IT HAPPENS
1. Comply Immediately: If the police arrive, keep your hands visible and follow every command. Do not hold anything in your hands, including a phone or controller.
2. Stay Calm: Explain clearly that you are a gamer and you believe you are being swatted.
3. Legal Follow Up: Swatting is a serious crime in 2026. Keep all chat logs from your recent games as they are evidence for the investigation.

TALK TRACK
If you are a streamer or a competitive gamer, tell your local police station that you are a high profile creator. Some departments allow you to put a note on your file to alert them of potential swatting risks.
